October 2009

Once upon a time there was community of cotton farmers. Then one day a nasty little bug called a boll weevil decided to ruin everyone's cotton crops (probably a curse from all the days of slavery). Anyway, people had to figure out what to do and how to grow something that the boll weevil couldn't destroy, so some genius decided to plant peanuts. Apparently, peanuts are pretty hardy and the boll weevil didn't care too much for them, so peanuts became the new cash crop in southern Alabama. The boll weevil is worshipped in these parts. He's a pretty famous little guy. There is a Boll Weevil Circle, which is a main road through town; there is a fountain on Main Street in the middle of downtown with someone holding a boll weevil up in the air, and the mascot for Enterprise-Ozark Community College is the Boll Weevil. You should see that guy dressed up in a boll weevil costume, it is a sight to see. An annual Peanut Festival is also celebrated in honor of the thriving peanut industry. The boll weevil is an ugly little booger, but he sure saved the day in a round about way!!

It's that time of year again! Cotton will be ready for harvest soon. It's very beautiful around these parts with the fields of snow.

Trae decided to be his happy little self this year because he was grounded! Welcome to the pre-teen years! Don't tell him I told you he was grounded on Halloween, he'll get mad at me.

Meet our precious Angel - now that's a contradiction!

I have decided that my kids are great cake decorators. Just look at how gorgeous their cakes are!!!

Twin orphan fawns

Twin orphan fawns

They must be orphans because there is no way their mother would let them play so close to the main road and eat in the middle of broad daylight!!!

I think this guy thought our pool was a pond and he could do some fishing!

You have no idea how hard it is to take a picture of a butterfly with their wings open without making them fly away.

Found this guy doing push-ups right outside the door.

How cute, a family of turtles soaking in the sun!

This guy is on the look out for some dragonflies.

This guy just wandered into our backyard looking for his friends and that's when Lilly found him.

She went crazy with him in the yard.

Then she got tired of being curious and just laid down and took a nap.

Don't they look perfect for each other?

This guy is on Trae's belly-button. I know, that's totally gross, you don't have to tell me.

Carissa has a way with frogs and she is always finding them and making them her friends.

May 2009

The kids helped with some painting before our summer guests arrived. They were very eager to help in the beginning and wouldn't stop pestering me to get started. Once they started working, they didn't think it was that much fun. I was glad to have the help but not so glad to hear the complaining.

"I Can't Write a Poem", by Trae Perez

What!
I can't write a poem.
My head hurts.
My finger cramped up.
I broke my arm.
I have a fever of 109.
There's no lead for my pencil.
Very Sleepy.
Fingers are swollen.
I lost sight in my eyes.
Outside there's a tornado.
I'm seeing ponies.
An atomic bomb is falling.
The poems are going up on the bulletin board.
Frankenstein is alive.
Albert Einstein can't add.
What!
I'm not finished.
You like it?
I knew you would.

Easter

Easter egg dying went to a whole new level this year. As our kids get older the magic starts to fade away, so we have to be creative. This year the kids had 3 eggs to dye. One would think that dying 3 eggs would go by really fast. Well, not with our kids. They dyed and redyed their eggs trying to make the perfect colors. It took them almost an hour to dye their 3 eggs. The funny part is that the next day, Carissa cried when Jose ate one of her eggs. I guess the magic never really goes away after all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

We finally bought our first home. We are now members of the "homeowners" club, which basically means now we know what a huge responsiblity it is to own a house. Just 30 more years and we'll have the thing paid off!!

BASKETBALL SEASON COMES TO AN END FOR THE FT. RUCKER BULLS

BASKETBALL SEASON COMES TO AN END FOR THE FT. RUCKER BULLS
Coach and son moment

We are playing a very serious brain game my sister gave Trae for Christmas. You have to shake your head yes or no to the questions asked. We had a lot of fun getting our headaches.

Lilly May

Here is the newest member of our family. Her name is Lily. We rescued her from Save-A-Pet, with PetSmart. She is a goofy dog that is definately a product of over-breeding. She is part beagle and part terrier. She has an extra toe on each hind leg and a huge underbite, which makes her the worst water drinker in the world. She has the worst smelling farts you'll ever smell, but she is the sweetest thing you'll ever see. Thanks to the Dog Whisperer and my creative genius side, she is housebroken and quite the little lady. We love our Lilly and she has made herself at home. Angel even likes her now. They are like peas and carrots.

GO FALCONS!

GO FALCONS!
"Coach Perez"
The Falcons played a great season with a record of 6 wins and only 1 loss. They are headed into the playoffs and hopefully on to win the championship. Trae was one of the youngest players on his team this year, so it was a big deal that he played 1st string as middle line-backer and running back all season. He went up against some pretty huge kids and took some pretty bad hits. He was covered in bruises most of the season, but it didn't stop him. Football is a very intense sport, especially when your son is playing and your husband is coaching him. Trae was amazing this year and Jose really enjoyed coaching. I'm looking forward to next season.

Look at that cute butt!

Deston Beach, FL

Deston Beach, FL
This is the prettiest beach we have ever been too. This area is reserved as a state park, so it was well-maintained. We paid only $4 to enjoy this beautiful, clean, uncrowded beach with clean bathrooms. I was amazed by the baby blue water. We enjoyed this day in the middle of October during the kids fall break. It was 88 degrees. What a great day!

Here are some of the creepy crawlers in Alabama.

We get to see a lot of hovering helicopters because of the flight school on base.
